Moorunga Angus was established in 2018 by John & Sue Matthies on the Moorunga property near Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula.

John has had a long history of breeding cattle, going back to starting the successful Looragoo Murray Grey Stud in 1974. He dispersed the Stud in the mid 80's, but continued farming near Buffalo in South Gippsland and at "Clifton", a 3000ac property near Geelong.
After selling the other properties, Moorunga was purchased in 2013 and is
the home base for Moorunga Angus.

Our Cow Herd

Moorunga Angus Stud was started with purchases from Anvil, Irelands & Stoney Point dispersal sales. These were opportunities to pick from the heart of the studs to gain females that would not normally be available.
More recently, judicious purchases have been made from Texas Angus, Banquet Angus & Little Meadows Angus from Western Australia.
We use embryo transfer on our proven donor cows to fast track their influence on our herd.
Sires are selected from Australia, New Zealand, USA & Canada to complement these cows.

Our aim is to continually improve the quality of our cow herd and to produce bulls that make our clients money.
Longevity, Sound structure, Performance (with good calf shape at birth), Quiet and soft.

Our Expansion

Lima Park (purchased in August 2025) is over 3000ac of grazing, from irrigated flats to undulating hill country.
This will allow us to run a commercial Angus herd to prove the genetics we're using and implant embryos from our top donor cows.
A bull sale facility is currently under construction. Our "On Property Bull Sale", normally held at the Dromana property will now be held at
Lima Park, Thursday 3rd September 2026.
Dromana will remain as home base for the stud herd and we'll happily deliver bulls to areas we already service, and beyond!!!

In 2021, Glenn & Susie Trout joined the Moorunga team. They're based at Dromana but you'll see them out and about at local shows and Melbourne Royal with our show team.
